Hide Your Tummy

SHAPEWEAR

Spanx is my go-to brand for high-quality boy shorts or tummy control tanks that really do suck everything in and hide a tummy. Be sure to also wear a supportive and lifting bra!

DARK COLORS

I know it’s a no brainer, but it’s worth repeating… dark colors are slimming. They just are.

VERTICAL PATTERNS

You have to be careful with prints and patterns. Horizontal stripes or large scale patterns can add volume. Look for vertical stripes and other vertical patterns, which are quite slimming!

CROPPED JACKET

Wear a flowy blouse with a cropped or shrunken jacket over it to create the illusion of a tiny waist!

PEPLUM TOPS

It can be tricky to find the right peplum top, but when you get the fit right, a peplum can hide a tummy beautifully.

TUNIC TOPS

Longer, flowy tops will hide a LOT. Utilize this chic and easy resource.

EMPIRE WAIST DRESS OR TOPS

An empire waist dress or top can be hard to find, but it’s worth the hunt as it will work wonders!

WRAP DRESSES OR TOPS

Wrap dresses and tops are magic! Not to mention elegant, stylish and classic.

RUCHED TOPS

You can rock a tighter fitting tee that is ruched to hide your tummy! The design detail is a little more forgiving.

CARDIGANS

You hear me say this all the time…a 3rd layer,  like a cardigan, is not only stylish, it can also hide a tummy.

BLAZER

A blazer is another 3rd layer option, like the cardigan. It will slim the tummy area, as well as hips, butt, and thighs.

MOTO JACKET

A moto jacket creates the same slimming effect as the cardigan and blazer.

KIMONO OR KAFTAN

These billowy stunners will hide everything, even a pregnancy.

PONCHO

The poncho is another way to hide everything. Just be sure to wear something more streamlined on the bottom to offset the volume on top.

STRUCTURED DRESSES

Dresses with structure in a weightier fabric will help hide a tummy, versus lightweight or flimsy fabrics that show every lump and bump. Think Ponte knit, tweeds, denim, and heavier fabrics with heft and structure!

HIGH-RISE JEANS

I LOVE high-rise jeans and they really are the best at sucking in everything around the middle! Embrace them and you will lose your muffin top!

SIZE UP

I know it’s tempting to stick to your size or be swayed by the number, but when your clothes are a little looser, you look smaller and there is no skin or tummy overhang!

TIE A SHIRT OR SWEATER

Tie a shirt or sweater around your waist to hide a tummy. This is a great styling trick to help you look tinier around the middle while also camouflaging the tummy.

BELT LOWER

If you really want to wear a belt, just wear it lower on your hips so you are not highlighting the problem area.

HALF-TUCK

Generally tucking is a no-no, but you can do the half tuck instead. I did a whole video about how to do this here.

ACCESSORIZE STRATEGICALLY

Wear bold necklaces, earrings or scarves to draw the eye up and AWAY from your problem area.

WIDE LEG PANTS

Wide leg pants will balance out hips and tummy!

FULL OR A-LINE SKIRTS

You can create an hourglass shape with a full skirt.

STRUCTURED SHOULDERS

Strong shoulders will make your waist look smaller. This does not mean you need something with shoulder pads! It can be puff detail, ruffles, or any shoulder-building details.
