I didn’t make it to New York Fashion Week this year, but that’s okay because now it’s SO easy to see all the runway shows from the comfort of your own home. AND, you can easily see what is trending! I thought it would be fun to share some of the spring 2019 fashion trends from NYFW that you can actually get a jump on… and wear NOW! I already shared the street style trends in this post.
Color Trends
There was a lot of color on the runway this year! Yellow was the biggest (and brightest) color trend. From big beautiful gowns to skirts, pants, jackets, and more. It was everywhere. I’m really excited about yellow. I love to wear yellow! Some other color trends I noticed were neon. Oh my… like 80’s neon. All the bright ones like pink, green, and blue. The last color trend was pink and red together. It’s an unexpected and playful color combination that I really like.

Cargo Pants
Cargo pants are back! Although, have they ever really gone away?? I’ve been sporting versions of the cargo pant for a decade! On the runways, you saw sporty and dressier cargo pants. Do you remember these cargo pants I featured about a year ago? I paired the cargo pants with a feminine top to soften up the look. But you could easily dress the look down and wear some more casual cargo pants with a white tee and sandals or wedges.

Crochet
Crocheted dresses, tops, and more! It’s the perfect beach trend. I love a crochet white sweater for a day at the beach. Mesh and netting was another trend. These sexy textures really add some excitement to your look.

Belts
I included belts in my fall accessory trends video… I also did a video about styling belts here in case you missed it. The belt trend is not showing any signs of slowing down..so if you have been eyeballing a designer one, you can safely scoop it up, knowing you will wear it into the spring season. All size belts are on trend!

Strong Shoulders
Puff sleeves have been on trend for a while, and they are getting bigger and puffier! Ha! And, you’ll even see strong shoulders in prints, like floral prints for spring.

Print Trends
Every season there’s a new trendy print. Plaid is a classic and always ‘in’, but now there are spring-like plaid color combinations popping up like yellow and blue (think Alicia Silverstone from Clueless). Other prints to keep an eye on: bright florals, animal print (of course), mix & match prints, and black and white polka dots.

Tie Dye
Yes…tie dye…like from the 60’s/70’s is back. YEAH BABY! R13 did a full on bright tie-dye blazer and top, but there are also subtle versions of this bold print including tie-dye pieces in lighter, more versatile colors like white and black and neutral tones.

Updated Suiting
This is probably my favorite! There are a ton of different, modern ways it was worn on the runway and even more ways to wear it in your day-to-day life. You can wear a shorts suit as I did at the Reward Style Conference earlier this year. Or you can wear a chic power suit. Or even a cool skirt and blazer. SO many possibilities!

Biker Shorts
This trend was part of the street style trends a lot this year too. We’re seeing it worn with oversized blazers and crop tops. I’m not sure how wearable this one is but could see it morphing into a casual wear trend. Think Princess Diana.

White
Maybe we should stop calling white a trend? Because it’s always in! I don’t have to talk too much about why I love an all-white look. You can find my posts on wearing white here and here. On the runway, white was seen in pretty little white dresses, suits, gowns, etc. Basically, it’s not going out of style anytime soon!

Sheer Colorful Trenches
This trend is interesting. Over the past year or so we’ve seen the trench evolve in small ways. We went from the classic trench to the updated feminine trench with ruffle and tie sleeves and an A-line or flared silhouette. Then we moved on the sleeveless trench. Every trench coat is a little different. And now we’re taking a big leap to…colorful, sheer trench coats. We saw them on the runways at Kate Spade and Adeam. They came in bright colors, neutral colors, fun patterns, etc.

Statement Bows
These statement bows add a feminine, preppy touch. You can find bows added into dress designs as well as on accessories like shoes.

Other Trends
Accessories: Buckets hats were everywhere! I also noticed a lot of headscarves, beanie style hats, sporty sunglasses, oversized necklaces, and statement earrings.
