What Is Elevated Casual?
Elevated casual probably has a lot of different definitions. For me, it basically means taking a casual look and elevating it with a few additions or adjustments. For example, the look below would be pretty casual if I was just wearing the top and jeans with sneakers. But you’ll see how I kicked it up a notch to make it elevated casual instead of just casual!

The Look
I wore this outfit to the rewardStyle Conference this year! I did a post on the conference here. It’s my favorite style uniform: chic jeans, a stylish top, blazer, and pumps! The jeans are by Rag & Bone and super flattering and comfortable. The top is a not so basic white tee. It has cool fishnet overlay which is on trend. Make sure you watch my spring trends video here. The blazer is this gorgeous icy blue, metallic color that’s a real standout. Then I finished off the look with some chic white pumps! Keep scrolling to find tips on how to create your perfect elevated casual look!
Perfect Elevated Casual Formula
- Jeans – I have a pretty big collection of jeans. So I like to wear a pair of jeans with an interesting detail like a frayed hem or edgy distressing. But, it’ always easiest to wear basic dark wash skinny jeans!
- Basic Top – I like to keep it pretty simple on top. You can wear a tee, blouse, shell, or whatever you feel most comfortable in. But it should be something that’s a neutral, classic style and color.
- Third Layer – In the look above, I’m wearing a chic metallic blazer. Your third layer doesn’t have to be so fashion forward. A simple black blazer would also work. You can wear a cardigan, moto jacket, blazer, kimono, etc. Adding that third layer gives the look more depth and interest.
- Shoes – As I mentioned above, if I were wearing this look with sneakers, it would be a lot more casual! Since I added the white pumps, it’s completely elevated the look!
