VIDEO: How To Wear Shorts Over 40 | BusbeeStyle TV

It’s tricky, ladies. It’s tricky.

Long gone are the days of just being able to throw on anything and walk out the door.

You have to be smart and strategic about shorts.

Here are some guidelines/questions to ask yourself regarding shorts over 40:

1) Do the shorts pass the fingertip test?

The hemline is as long as your middle finger with your arms down by your side – give or take

2) Do your thighs have a little breathing room?

A little space between the shorts and the thigh will make legs look smaller

3) Is the fabric high-quality?

You don’t want anything too clingy, sheer or inexpensive-looking. A higher quality fabric will provide more coverage

4) Is the length right for you and your body?

I’m petite and need a shorter inseam otherwise my legs look stumpy.

If you are taller, you may want a longer inseam.

You may also want bermuda length to cover up blemishes.

5) Wear brown, nude or metallic shoes to keep legs looking long

You don’t have to, but these colors that blend into your skin tone will make your legs look longer, which is great if you are showing them off in shorts!

6) What are you wearing with your shorts?

I really like short, 3/4 or roll-up sleeve tops with shorts to give my  upper body more coverage. If I’m showing a lot of leg, I like to keep it more conservative on top.

7) Can I wear bermuda length shorts? (knee length)

Yes, I prefer the kind that tapers, unless you are triangle shaped (big hips and thighs) then you should do more of straight leg bermuda.

They run REALLY big, so order two sizes down. Seriously, two sizes. That means if you are a 6, order a 2.

  1. I love this video, even though I have watched your other one, about this subject. This one touched on a few other issues, I think. I am also 5’4″(almost.:), and, I tried some bermuda shorts, and, I just feel really frumpy and my legs do look shorter, in them. Plus, I think I must have just a little fatter knees, and it is just not flattering, with the knee length shorts, either. The rest of my legs are not fat looking,(I don’t think).Anyway, my jeans shorts are still a little shorter,(I never ever have ,or would show any of my bum.. ewww. Even on younger girls and women, I just think that looks SO trashy, and my daughters NEVER went out of our house, wearing anything too revealing. But, I do just love the jeans shorts, for around my house, and yard. It gets SO humid here, in Southern Pa, and also VERY hot (around 100 degrees is normal, in July) But, the humidity is the killer, for me. And ,I just can not wear any longer pant , or longer skirts, in that kind of stifling weather. Thanks again, for your tips and information, Erin. Btw, are you doing something different, with your eye makeup? You always look lovely, but you are looking especially, extra lovely, on this video! I think it is your eyes. They look brighter ,or lighter, or something..?? And, I love your hair slightly wavy. SO pretty! I can’t wait until my hair grows to that length. It will probably take another 6 months or so. Right now, it is almost to shoulder length.
I am so happy to hear, that your husband is getting better! I’m sure he feels good to be able to get up and out, somewhat more. That is great news! He has been in my thoughts and prayers.
They never did catch that sniper, out in Colorado! And, as far as I know he never struck again. I really do hope he doesn’t! Such a scary world that we live in!
Again, thank you for all you do, and how much you help all of us ladies. 🙂 Love, Jill xxoo
