How To Fix Those Post Summer Beauty Blues You Can’t Ignore Another Day!

Post summer beauty?? What?? Seems like only yesterday we were scrubbed, polished, waxed and ready for summer. Well, Labor Day has come and gone, and most kids are (hopefully) back in school. And right around this time of year, as we vacuum the beach sand, graham cracker dust and month-old French fries from the inside of our cars, we have a moment to take a nice long look at our post summer beauty selves. (That scream you hear is 100% mine.) Yikes, indeed. Because by September, my parched hair and blotchy skin have paid the price for all that beach time and French fry eating. (How do you think they got in my car?)

Post Summer Beauty Tips And Products That Really Work!

By now, I’ve got the fixes down to a pretty effective science. Knowing the cause (dehydrated skin, improper cleansing, etc.) usually points me in the right direction. So, I take a bit of extra time on Sunday nights and evaluate my hair and/or skin needs. Aside from the aesthetic benefits, it’s important to take time for myself (even for a few minutes). Follow these tips and I promise that by the time you’ve finished off the last of the Halloween Kit Kats, M&Ms and Lemonheads, you’ll be gorgeous and glowing in time for the fall season!

Combat Dry, Brittle or Overbleached Hair

I always get a good haircut or trim (at least two inches) this time of year. It’s a fresh reset. If that’s not up your alley, minimize the use of your hot styling tools by air drying (or partially air drying) your hair. Get yourself a good hair masque and commit to using it weekly for the month of October. Sunday nights are my ‘beauty nights’ where I do my nails and sleep with a deep conditioner in my hair overnight (just put a towel on your pillowcase). These are excellent and smell wonderful!

Unclog Those Pores

Most summer days, your skin is battling heat, humidity, sweat, pollution, sunscreen and makeup. And the result? Tiny bumps and clogged pores. The best solution is to continue with your usual cleanser and toner, but add a clay mask 2-3 times a week. I like applying them just to my trouble areas rather than the whole face. With either clay or charcoal as the active ingredient, these are super effective and work really quickly.

Remedy Hyperpigmentation

I wear SPF 50, sunglasses, a hat, long sleeves and sit under an umbrella. But with my light olive skin, it’s nearly impossible to avoid some measure of sun exposure. That means blotchy, spotty skin that veers towards hyperpigmentation and/or melasma. But I have a tried-and-true plan of attack. Continue with sunscreen. Exfoliate with glycolic or other AHAs. Use Vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night.
