These New Skincare Ingredients Are Going To Be Super Popular in 2022
Must-Have Skincare Ingredients
As we continue to vacuum pine needles and finish off what’s left of Aunt Millie’s holiday chocolate bark, we also look ahead towards the fabulous possibilities of 2022. (Please, oh please not a 2020-too!). And for me, that means scoping out all the great beauty products, services, treatments and more in the new year. First on my list? Figuring out the most newsworthy and must-have skincare ingredients. Didn’t I do this last year? Yes, yes, I did. But wouldn’t you know there’s more. Lots more actually. And, FYI, there’s not a bottle of snail mucin in sight (thank goodness). So, after my usual research and testing, I narrowed my list to five skincare ingredients that are already included in many of our favorite products. Let’s take a look!

Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR)
For those of you who have yet to jump on the retinol bandwagon due to irritation and redness, then HPR may be just what your skin has been looking for. HPR is seen as an effective alternative to prescription retinoic acid without the unpleasant side effects of skin peeling or irritation. A member of the Vitamin A family, clinical studies demonstrate that HPR visibly reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles in as little as 14 days, while also reducing uneven skin tone, firming the skin, reducing visible pores, and addressing excess oil production. If you're interested in giving it a try, here are a few great products (p.s., I use Sunday Riley and LOVE it!).
Looking for a more mild version of Vitamin C/anti-oxidant? Then look no further than Prickly Pear Seed Oil. This lightweight oil contains a vital skin component, linoleic acid, which helps hydrate the skin, protect the delicate skin barrier, and prevent water loss. This multi-tasker also is shown to reduce inflammation and redness, promote healing and help prevent acne breakouts. Here are some excellent oils that I love.
Winter cherry is also known as ashwagandha or Indian ginseng. It's an antioxidant-rich plant that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 4,000 years. It's been shown to prevent hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and uneven skin. This is ideal for those who prefer a non-chemical skin brightener. I've included an oral supplement as well!
Makgeolli is actually brewed rice wine! (Yes, it can be your Saturday night cocktail as well as your morning toner!) The natural rice extract can be used topically to nourish the skin and help prevent the formation of age spots. Any of these products can be used morning and night, either with a cotton pad or simply splashed directly onto your skin.
Another terrific skin brightener, gallic acid, is derived from plants and herbs. It has powerful antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This helps protect stressed skin, as well as reduce the appearance of redness and uneven skin tone.
