I was told that Golden Goose sneakers are hard to break in and not very comfortable, so I never tried them. They’re also $500+ sneakers and I felt like I couldn’t justify spending that much money on a pair of sneakers. However, Golden Goose sneakers have become SO popular that I decided I needed to try them and review them so I could share my findings with you. Keep scrolling to see my verdict.

Golden Goose Sneakers
Golden Goose founders Alessandro Gallo and Francesca Rinaldo describe the Superstar sneakers as being an “emotional product that is authentic and never artificial.” They look as though they’ve already lived a life, full of adventure.
Translation… the sneakers look dirty. What? Dirty sneakers that are new? Yes. They come that way. The company uses a special technique to scuff, scrape, and distress the leather giving each pair a unique look… no two pairs are exactly the same since they are hand made and hand distressed.
I ordered a pair of these popular sneakers FULLY expecting to tell you to SAVE YOUR MONEY.
Sneaker Break-In Time
Break-in time is a big deal for me…I don’t have time for uncomfortable shoes! Like you, I’m a busy mom, wife, juggling a thousand things.
There was basically NO break-in time for my Golden Goose sneakers. I wore them once or twice and they were broken in. I cannot stress enough how comfortable these are right out of the box!
Golden Goose Italian Sizing & Fit
They come in Italian sizing, which can be confusing so I wanted to share a breakdown:
IT 36 = US 6,
IT 38 = US 8,
IT 40 = US 10
…and so on
Golden Goose sneakers only come in full sizes and are true to size, but if your normal shoe size is a ½ size, I recommend sizing down. For example, if you’re a size US 8.5, get the size… IT 38.
The sneakers are comfortable right out of the box but the more you wear them, the more they mold to your foot and become even more comfortable! Depending on the style you get, some have a bulkier fit. They also have high-tops if that’s more your style. But the classic style looks super chic and sleek on your feet.

How to Find Discounted Golden Goose Sneakers
I know these shoes are VERY expensive so I wanted to share ways that you can pick up a pair for less.
These sneakers rarely go on sale but one place that has flash sales every once in a while is SSENSE. (Stay on top of sizing as they sell out quickly.) You can also check RueLala, Vestiare Collective, and Gilt for flash sales. Find bigger selections at Farfecth, Net-A-Porter, and SSENSE. Or shop places like Nordstrom, Shopbop, and Revolve.
If you still don’t want to spend the money, there’s a Steve Madden dupe I’ve tried that looks VERY similar and is also very comfortable! Find more dupes below…
THE VERDICT: Are They REALLY Worth the Money???
I really did not think I would like Golden Goose sneakers. As I mentioned above, I fully expected to tell you to save your money and buy a different pair instead.
To my surprise, they are wonderful… and incredibly comfortable! These sneakers are no doubt a splurge, but they are so worth it.
I can wear them with just about anything in my closet. I wear them with dresses, skirts, shorts, jeans, and loungewear and they add a cool element to every look. Their versatility allows me to wear them all of the time, which decreases their cost per wear… something that I often consider when splurging on higher-priced items.
Golden Goose Dupes & Lookalikes
Quick note…I have not tried any of these dupes besides the Steve Madden sneakers so I cannot promise they are as comfortable as the Golden Goose or Steve Madden’s but I wanted to show you the options!
