14 Home Decor Items That Look More Expensive Than They Really Are

Affordable Home Decor

I really like pretty things. When it comes to home dĂ©cor, I have to admit, I switch things out fairly frequently. Like seasonally, or when I get a wild hair to try a new color palette, AND when I see…something pretty. Because I like the variety, I’m definitely willing to shop at a discount retailer for home furnishings. I recently found some really amazing and affordable pieces at Target and Amazon that I wanted to share. They’re all in a neutral color palette (kind of my jam right now) but can easily work back to any color you might be loving in your own home. If your home is feeling dated or your space doesn’t feel “finished” these are some budget-friendly finds that can update your happy abode and make it feel more modern, fresh and current.

#1 tip for elevating and UPDATING the look of any room is to add some neutrals pieces! If you want to mix neutrals with prints, this post provides some helpful tips.

1

Neutral Rug

This low pile, wool area rug is great for high traffic areas. I really like the simple design and rich colors. I checked one out in-store and was surprised by the high quality! It definitely looks more expensive than it is.
2

Handled Vase

I bought this vintage, stoneware vase for my office and I love it. It's a substantial piece and looks great paired with #3 and #4. The trio would look amazing on a fireplace mantle or console table. The height variation is just right and the colors compliment each other very well.
3

Cream Vintage Vase

Solo or filled with flowers or greenery, this vase has a vintage, handmade look of stoneware pottery and it's just $30!
4

Short Vintage Vase

The 3rd vase of the trio is a light blueish gray in tone. The dark brown speckles work back to the color of the handled vase (#2). If you were pairing the 3 together, I'd recommend adding greenery or flowers to one and leaving the other 2 empty. I like simple greenery like eucalyptus (linked my favorite).
5

Oval Basket

This handled basket is really nice quality and great for storing magazines, blankets or throw pillows. If you have a 2-tier console table, this would be perfect for the bottom tier!
6

Embroidered Throw Pillow

Honestly, nothing will date your couch more than old, ratty or discolored pillows. Especially if you have a darker-colored couch, light pillows will make it look more modern. This one has a subtle floral print embroidered print and looks luxe.
7

Neutral Jute Pillow

The thick, jute fabric on this pillow is what makes it look and feel more expensive than it is. It also pairs beautifully with #6.
8

Updated Art

This wall art is simple, beautiful and peaceful. The sleek frame is modern and has a very "clean" style, not at all overwhelming. I would prop this up against the wall on a console table or hang it in a powder room for a light and airy (literally) update.

*Lit* Me Up

I did a double-take when I saw this large, ceramic table lamp in store because it looks almost identical to one I love from another high-end retailer. What makes it look luxe?... The distressing on the base and then the contrasting white fabric lampshade which IS included. Many of the Studio McGee pieces sell out quickly at Target and I have a feeling this one won't be around for long!
10

Scalloped Bowl

Ruffled or scalloped edges are really trending in home decor right now. Add this to your coffee table with a short stack of books or keep it on your entryway table to store keys. It's a simple and pretty piece that's easy to add to your existing decor. You can be on trend without breaking the bank.
11

White Planter

Especially when you have dark furniture or kitchen counters, adding white accents is a necessary modern touch. This terracotta planter works indoors and outside. If you have other, orange terracotta planters, you can freshen them up with a coat of white paint. TIP - for a textured finish, add plenty of baking soda to your white paint, mix and apply. It makes for a stoneware-looking finish!
12

Modern Club Chairs

These are already sold out in the all-white version, but I like the black, white and neutral combo so much more! It's not too early to start thinking about a refresh for your patio, balcony or front porch. The modern design of the club chair is available at much higher price points at other retailers, but these are budget-friendly AND get great reviews!
13

Burlwood End Table

This burlwood side table is a substantial piece for the price. It's modern, yet it will mix well with a range of decor styles. The light wood and hexagon shape are what give it a contemporary twist.
14

Set of 3 Baskets

These baskets are the perfect size for your coffee table, desk, laundry room, etc. They look good nested together or separated. I can honestly think of a million uses for these but sitting at the bottom of the stairs holding all the odds and ends you need to bring upstairs comes to mind!
