Winterize Your Dress
It’s tough to wear dresses in the winter.
Wearing a dress usually means sacrificing warmth and comfort.
But, thankfully, the layered look is on trend…
This dress, btw, is on MAJOR SALE ($69)!
It has a beautiful print and origami neckline.
The cherry red waistband defines your waist.
Layer Up
Underneath my origami, floral print dress, I’m wearing a basic, black turtleneck
And black coated skinny jeans.
I can easily take the dress off, add a sweater, and create a completely different look
(which I did and will show you later.)
I could swap the mules for booties, to add even more comfort and function.
I could also easily layer a leather, wool or down jacket/coat for even more warmth.
More floral print dresses here.
The Basics
I plan to tackle winter basics in an upcoming post, but I think this look demonstrates the importance of basics…
Both the turtleneck and jeans are basics.
This combination would easily serve as the foundation for several looks.
Again, I could take off the dress and put on a sweater or blazer and have a completely different outfit.
Temple
Through the magic of photography, it looks like I’m the only one outside this gorgeous Buddhist temple in Tokyo, Japan called Senso-Ji.
But, it was actually swamped with people!
I knew I wanted to get pictures here because it is so beautiful and colorful…
so I found a quiet-ish corner, and had my husband snap away.
Both kids are off to the right playing.
Even though I was a little embarrassed, I’m so glad we took these because they ended up being my some of my favorite shots of the trip.
About Tokyo
We only had a couple of days in Tokyo before heading to the mountains to ski.
I will recap our complete trip in another post.
All of my outfit details are below.

When I was looking at these stunning photos; I was wondering how you were able to capture the pics w/out others around. And, if others were present, how you kept from being self conscious. Glad you pushed through the slight discomfort-the pics are GORGEOUS!! Can’t wait to hear more about your trip. Is this your first trip to Japan? These kinds of posts are so helpful-these are the types of tips I can really use.
Hi Sherri…. yes, there was some discomfort, but I don’t mind sucking up a little embarrassment to get a great shot! 😉 The hardest part was keeping the kids out of trouble! This was our first trip to Japan. I’m so glad this is helpful… I really love to try out and share different styling ideas. I love mixing things in new ways. I’m glad you liked it! Thanks so much for the feedback. Erin xo
