This past year, we’ve seen a lot of major shifts and new trends in the fashion world. From the normalization of loungewear style in public to top-up dressing for Zoom calls, and beyond. Handbag trends are one thing you might not think about as often because most of the time, we invest in one or two high-quality bags and call it a day. But adding some modern ‘of the moment’ handbags can elevate your style and make you look like you know what’s going on in the fashion space. I think spring and summer handbags are always so much fun to experiment with. This year, we’re seeing new handbag trends emerge: extra-large totes, duffel shapes, pouch bags, exaggerated quilting and chain details. All of the handbag trends listed below will no doubt get you excited to shop again… and ready to make room in your closet!

Trend #1 | Chain Bags
This first trend is actually a twofer. Chunky gold chains and hardware on handbags is BIG this year. And this bag is the most gorgeous example of the trend by Bottega Veneta. The chain is heavy and you can tell as soon as you touch it that it’s super high-quality. The braided leather is also so beautiful and another very popular trend this year. Trend #2 | Puffy Quilting
The next trend is alllll about texture! A bag with any sort of braided leather/faux leather, puffy material, quilted leather/faux leather, scrunching, are all in. I love how this trend can add depth to a look. That added texture just gives an outfit more interest. These are a few of my favorites…
Woven bags are always on-trend during the spring and summer so I wanted to make sure I shared a few of my favorites. There are quite a few bags out there that are woven and/or raffia styles. But this year, fishnet is getting more popular. Fishnet and mesh clothing was part of my fashion trends roundup but now we’re seeing it on even more accessories…like handbags!
A color pop is always fun during the summer. If you’re a color-phobe, consider a more muted color like pale yellow, light blue, blush pink, or mint green…anything pastel is also on-trend during this time of the year!
The ’90s are back in full force! Anything that was “cool” in the ’90s is cool again. Denise and Joy, our community manager and virtual assistant both have teenage daughters, and they say that 90’s inspired outfits are all their girls wear now. Although women over 40 may not want to wear the uber-trendy '90s outfits, a handbag is a simple way to look like you know what’s trendy. Those huge bags are hilarious. are they running away from home? looking for a train to hitch a ride on? my shoulder hurts just thinking about carrying one of those around while shopping.
I LOVE THE BIG OVERSIZED SLOUCHY BAGS! I’D LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT CARRYING ONE THOUGH. I’LL JUST ADMIRE THEM FROM AFAR. LOL. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE REALLY NICE NOTE TODAY ADDRESSING EVERYTHING GOING ON. IT’S SO NICE TO STAY CONNECTED TO WHAT EVERYONE IS DOING TO MAKE IT THROUGH. I THINK YOU NAILED IT ABOUT THERE ISN’T AN END DATE THAT IS MAKING THIS SO HARD. IT’S THE UNKNOWN. MY 30 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, SON-IN-LAW AND 18 MONTH OLD GRANDSON MOVED IN OVER THE WEEKEND. THEY AREN’T USED TO WORKING AT HOME LIKE MY HUSBAND AND I ARE – AND WITH AN 18 MONTH OLD TO JUGGLE TOO, THEY WERE EXHAUSTED AFTER A WEEK OF DOING IT. MY HUSBAND AND I WORK AT HOME ALL THE TIME ANYWAY. WE ALSO HAVE TWO TEENAGERS STUCK IN THE HOUSE SO WE CAN ALL JUGGLE BABYSITTING IN BETWEEN CONFERENCE CALLS. MY DAUGHTER JUST PILED HER MATTRESSES, FREEZER FULL OF FOOD, CLOTHING AND NECESSITIES IN THE TRUCK AND SHOWED UP FRIDAY NIGHT. THEY THREW THEIR MATTRESSES IN THE MEDIA ROOM FOR A MAKESHIFT BEDROOM. MY HUSBAND AND I EACH HAVE A DEDICATED OFFICE SO WE DON’T REALLY HAVE A GUEST ROOM. THE TEENS EACH HAVE THEIR OWN ROOM SO THE MEDIA ROOM MADE A GREAT OPTION. WE WILL SEE HOW SANE WE ALL STAY.
