Keep Your Routine
Busy schedules, lack of sleep and overindulgence can throw anyone off. But just like your workouts, it’s important to stick to your skincare routine. It doesn’t have to be exactly the same, because packing full-size products can be a challenge. You know I love a good LED mask and micro-needling tool. But, I don’t bother taking these tools along while traveling (who has the room?). I keep to the basics of a double cleanse, vitamin C serum, sunscreen, moisturizer or oil, and retinol. I like to pack my ‘almost empties’ so I can toss them out before I come back home. I also like to pack samples of products I want to try, especially things like moisturizers, oils or hydrating masks (perfect after air travel). Of course, I don’t try 10 new products at once, but I might experiment with one or two while keeping everything else consistent.
If you’re traveling for more than a few hours, it’s best to go really light on the makeup. It can clog your pores and pull moisture from your skin. And, the longer you wear it, the more damage it does. Remember, your skin is already battling the ultimate travel bummer: dry, recirculated air. I recommend either skipping makeup or wearing a lightweight skin tint (you know how I love those!). Since most are skincare hybrids, you'll get the protective benefits of the added active ingredients.
Drink water, skip the alcohol and caffeine (I know, it's not fair) and apply products that hydrate. Rich moisturizers, face oils, masks and other products with hyaluronic acid really make a difference. Remember, hyaluronic acid can absorb and retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it a powerful hydrator. It can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to leave the skin looking healthy and refreshed. I also make a point to pack my collagen powder. It helps! If you're traveling for any length of time, consider investing in a mini humidifier. They are small, easy to pack, and really help keep skin glowy and bouncy.
When the turkey is dry, your in-laws are fighting or you've eaten too many cheese balls, then by all means take a deep breath and just go with it. Pour yourself a tall glass of something. Get yourself a pretty lipstick, cream blush and dewy highlighter and fake that glow. You deserve it!
