Styling the Wardrobe Basic: Black Turtleneck

Your wardrobe basics are the essential pieces every woman needs.
The black turtleneck is definitely a must-have for fall/winter.
IF you don’t like things around your neck, substitute the turtleneck for a long-sleeve, black tee.
I am so excited to team up with Bloomingdales to show you three ways to wear your black turtleneck (below).
Turtleneck
The lightweight, ruched neck turtleneck I’m wearing in all the looks below is by Eileen Fisher.
Eileen Fisher is a go-to for effortless, comfortable, long-lasting basics.
The silhouettes are forgiving (never too tight). The fabrics are always high quality. They wash and wear well.
And, the styles are classic, providing a great deal of versatility for a long time.

1) Wear the Turtleneck with a Statement Coat
You should think of your black turtleneck as a blank canvas, and the perfect background for some color.
In this case, I paired it with this gorgeous, animal print statement coat by Bardot.
The coat runs large, so I suggest sizing down.
Jeans
In all three of my looks, you will also notice I’m wearing the same pair of dark wash skinny jeans.
This is another wardrobe essential. If you are curvier, I recommend these slimming jeans by NYDJ

2) Pair Your Turtleneck with a Puffer Coat
Puffers, while functional and necessary in cooler climates, are now also ‘on trend.’
As a result… there are many different types of puffers… from packable to cropped.
I am a HUGE fan of SAM. puffer coats and jackets.
These modern pieces are designed by the same husband and wife team behind Andrew Marc.
I now own two SAM. coats. They are thoughtfully designed, not to mention sleek and edgy.
Check out the thumb hole sleeves…a small, but important detail.

3) Try Your Turtleneck with a Velvet Blazer
This is a great option for a casual office holiday party, or dinner out around the holidays.
You might even want to wear this for Thanksgiving.
The velvet blazer, which also comes in black, immediately takes these basics to an elevated place.
The boots add a dash of sexy. You could easily swap the boots for pumps if you live in a warmer climate.
Swap the jeans for black pants to create an even dressier look.

Erin, all three looks are gorgeous. I am loving the animal print coat with the patent booties. You look amazing. Telluride really agrees with you.
